The Partnerships behind the Projects
The "Wisconsin World War II" Stories project builds on the partnership between the Wisconsin Historical Society and Wisconsin Public Television.

When the Wisconsin Historical Society and Wisconsin Public Television joined forces for the Wisconsin Collection, their partnership created a powerful storytelling force. For "Wisconsin World War II Stories," a third trusted institution has come on board: the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), which runs the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in addition to providing a range of services to state veterans, prides itself on making a difference in the lives of veterans and their families. Through the museum, the WDVA has amassed the state's most extensive collection of material relating to Wisconsin veterans.

The Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) brought its national reputation as a leader in historical research and one of the finest manuscript and photographic archives in North America.

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) brought its achievements as a leader in public television history programming. Together they provide the state of Wisconsin a formidable combination of talent and content in telling the stories of Wisconsin history.

This successful collaboration between the WHS and WPT has resulted in 52 minute-long vignettes and five programs created for the Sesquicentennial in 1998 and two 10-episode seasons of Wisconsin Stories, as well as acclaimed stand-alone documentaries such as "When Wisconsin Was New France."

"Wisconsin World War II Stories," a production of the WHS and WPT in association with the WDVA, seeks to gather the inspiring recollections of Wisconsin men and women who served in the armed forces during World War II for this generation and those to come, so Wisconsin will never forget their valor and sacrifice.
