What is Garden Expo?Garden Expo 2011

Garden Expo is a community educational event and fundraiser hosted by Wisconsin Public Television and the UW-Extension Horticulture Team. This event also is a companion to WPT's popular program The Wisconsin Gardener. Attendees enjoy dozens of educational seminars, demonstrations and a fantastic vendor mall with the latest garden products.

GARDEN EXPO JOBS
 

Garden Expo would not be possible without the helping hands of almost 220 volunteers who work together to set up the show, sell tickets, assist presenters, check in volunteers and much much more!

* = Seated Job. All other jobs involve standing/walking.

Demo Assistant: Help set up demonstration lectures, distribute handouts and assist in clean-up.

Exhibitor Check-In: Work with show staff to greet and check-in exhibitors during set up on Thursday, February 7 and Friday, February 8. 

Exhibitor Entrance Attendant: Monitor traffic flow at back doors of the Exhibition Hall while show is in progress. 

Floaters: Fill in where needed in the event that another volunteer needs to cancel - lots of fun if you enjoy versatility.

Greeter: Direct attendees to entry gates, ticket booths, seminars and the show floor.  Answer basic questions about Garden Expo.

Handstamper: Monitor exit doors, hand stamp visitors so they can re-enter the show, and answer general event questions.

Volunteers at workQuilt Expo Booth:* Answer general questions about Quilt Expo, hand out literature and encourage visitors to enter into a prize drawing.

Raffle and Information Desk:* Answer general questions about Garden Expo using the show program as an information resource. Sell raffle tickets.

Seminar Assistant: Welcome guests, assist with set up, distribute handouts and evaluations, make announcements, keep presenters on schedule, operate the lighting panel and assist with crowd control.

Set-Up: Assist with setting up signage, decorating and hauling equipment.  Some heavy lifting is required.

Volunteers at workTicket Sales:* Sell tickets in the front or back lobby of the Exhibition Hall. You must be able to accurately add and quickly make change.

Volunteer Check-In:* Greet volunteers, hand them their name badges and direct them to training areas in our volunteer lounge. Distribute evaluation forms as volunteers check out.

When and where is Garden Expo?

Feb. 8, 9, 10, 2013 in the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

What type of time commitment is involved?

Volunteer shifts range from 2-4 hours depending on the position.

What is the minimum age to volunteer?

The minimum age to volunteer at Garden Expo is 16.
