The WPT Sports Announcing Team Turina Bakken
After several knee surgeries that ended her playing career, Bakken turned to coaching in 2003 and served as the head coach of the Madison Freeze, a USA Hockey B-level team, for five years. She was the co-host of the Wisconsin Women's Sports Hour weekly radio show in 2008 and has been doing color analysis for TV and radio periodically since the Badger's inaugural season in 1998-99. Bakken is the Dean of Business and Applied Arts at Madison Area Technical College and is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ron earned his degree in Communication Arts from UW-Madison in 1982. He brings great experience to the WPT broadcasts, having provided color analysis for Badger Hockey from 1983-90 for the local CBS affiliate, covering both Badger Hockey NCAA Championships in 1983 and 1990. Ron is a past President of the National W Club. He is the CEO of the Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation, a non-profit that organizes the Badger State Games, Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and several Heath Initiatives programs. Robb Vogel
Robb's passion and history for covering college hockey runs deep. From his 5-plus years in Madison following the Badgers to stints in Grand Forks, Duluth, Minneapolis and as a St. Cloud State University graduate. Chances are if they have a team in the WCHA, Robb has been there. Robb is an award winning sports reporter, earning "best sports reporting" honors by both the AP & WBA in 2001. Theran Welsh
Theran graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communication Arts in 1981. He earned his Certified Public Accounting designation in 1988. He is a principal with SVA Companies, a certified public accounting and business consulting firm headquartered in Madison, Wis. Theran is past president of the Blue Line Club and past president of Associated General Contractors Associate Board. He serves on several boards and is involved in many Madison-area fundraising and sporting activities. Jay Wilson
Jay also has strong ties to prep level sports across the state. He has called the game for WIAA State High School Basketball and Hockey Championships since 1981 and is currently the voice of Channel 3000's Prep Mania Game of the Week. In 1994, he was inducted into the Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Jay has received awards as Madison's favorite TV Sportscaster in reader polls by The Wisconsin State Journal, The Capital Times and Isthmus Newspapers. |


Turina Bakken is a familiar face in Madison-area ice arenas. She played hockey for over 30 years, getting her start on the frozen rinks in Minnesota. Bakken played club hockey at the University of Wisconsin on the A-level team for many years before moving to the Madison Edge team.
Ron Vincent is part of the Badger Men's Hockey broadcast team as a color analyst for WPT. Hockey fans may remember his name as Ron played for the Badgers from 1978-82. He was part of the 1981 NCAA Championship team, compiling 65 points that season. In 1982 Ron was elected captain and helped lead his team's return to the NCAA Finals against North Dakota. He was voted most valuable player that season scoring 61 points. During his Badger career, Ron played in 159 games and tallied 75 goals, 131 assists for 206 points, which still ranks 6th in the UW record books. Ron, a Victoria, British Columbia native, was inducted into the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame in 1994.
Men's Hockey Robb Vogel joined the WPT Sports broadcast team in 2005 as the play-by-play voice for Badger Hockey. He is the Sports Director at WMTV in Madison. Robb has covered sports in Wisconsin as a reporter for over a decade and has been "in the business" since 1992.
Theran Welsh is part of the WPT broadcast team as a Badger Hockey color analyst. Theran played defense for the Badgers from 1978 to 1981, during which time he played in 161 games and accumulated 220 points during his career – 3rd on the all-time Wisconsin points total list. He also was a two-year captain for the Badgers, played in two NCAA championships, and received a championship ring as part of the 1981 NCAA championship team. He was elected an All-American after leading his team with 58 points during the 1980 campaign. Theran was inducted into the University of Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in September of 2010.
Jay Wilson is the play-by-play voice for Badger women's hockey on WPT. Affectionately called "The Dean" of sports reporting, Jay brings an in-depth knowledge of Badger sports to the WPT airwaves. With over 20 years of broadcast experience, he is the sports director at WISC-TV in Madison.
