Prog. 2001: Serge with Confidence

Master basic three- and four-thread serged overlock stitches, plus a serged rolled edge. Nancy details how to set up, thread, and adjust a serger, then demonstrates stitching seams, turning corners, "reverse stitching," and troubleshooting. She shows how to use 3- and 4-thread overlock stitches and serged rolled edges for both utilitarian and decorative purposes.

Use versatile flatlock, cover, and chain stitches to add interest and creativity to serged projects. Nancy begins by showing how to adjust a serger for flatlocking, then illustrates several decorative uses for this stitch. She also discusses how to serge and troubleshoot a cover stitch and a chain stitch, then presents options for combining overlock and coverlock stitches.

Use serger accessory feet and attachments to give your serging great pizzazz. Serger expert Margaret Tully joins Nancy in showing exciting effects that can be created using a serger Cording Foot, Ruffler Foot, Belt Loop Attachment, and Down Turned Feller. They create a ruffled pillow using the serger, plus illustrate applications for the other serger feet.

Express your creativity by the way in which you arrange and join quilt blocks. Author Darlene Zimmerman is Nancy's guest as they discuss and illustrate examples of block setting options including block-to-block, block-to-block with sashing and cornerstones, uneven quilt blocks, one-strip sashing, alternate blocks, connector blocks, and setting blocks on point.

Use quilt borders to frame quilts and give them an artistic edge. After detailing how to add simple borders to a quilt, Nancy and guest Darlene Zimmerman demonstrate interesting, yet easy border alternatives that add interest and vitality. They show how to add a pieced ice cream cone border, a prairie points border, and a knife-edge finish.

Bind quilt edges with specialty finishing techniques. Nancy and guest Darlene Zimmerman illustrate how to carry the theme of a quilt design to the shape of the border and the binding. After explaining how to cut binding strips and join them to a straight edge, they demonstrate how to add scalloped, wavy, or notched edge bindings.

Prog. 2007: Easy Ribbon Accents

Add easy accents to garments, accessories, and home décor using 1" ribbon. Nancy creates single rosettes, single rosettes with double petals, double rosettes, and easy leaves from 1" ribbon. Shape and stitch dramatic ribbon accents using narrower 1/4" silk ribbons. Learn to create chain, fern, and lazy daisy stitches, as well as French knots, using 1/4" silk ribbons. Nancy details how to set up the embroidery hoop, then demonstrates hand and machine techniques for each stitch. She shows finished embroidery on evening bags and pillows.

Prog. 2010: Easy Silhouette Wardrobe

Explore five options for making unique vests from an easy to sew pattern. Author and publisher Amy Barickman is Nancy's guest. They start with a simple vest pattern, then share ideas for serging, sewing, and embellishing single and double layer vests. They make reversible, cropped, needle felted, and color-blocked vests, as well as a vest using recycled fabrics.

Prog. 2011: Easy Silhouette Wardrobe

Even novice sewers can create jackets that have pizzazz and style. Nancy and guest Amy Barickman start with a silhouette jacket pattern with five main pattern pieces. They make a wool single layer serged jacket with decorative stitching, bind jacket edges with ribbons, and embellish jackets with folk art needle felted appliqués and denim appliqués.

Prog. 2012: Savvy Stencil Appliqués

Use traditional quilting stencils to design appliqués for unique home decorating accessories. Author/designer Gretchen Hudock is Nancy's guest as they explore innovative projects featuring appliqués inspired by stencils. They show how to design, position, and fuse appliqués created with stencils, then add fusible bias to portions of the designs on a pillowcase and two table runners.

Prog. 2013: Savvy Stencil Appliqués

Add interest and dimension to appliqués designed from quilting stencils. Nancy and guest Gretchen Hudock show how to adapt a stencil design to accommodate any size border. They illustrate how to use portions of a stencil to obtain multiple design options, and they demonstrate innovative "window" appliqués and dimensional accents.

Prog. 2014: Fancy Footworks

Use specialty sewing machine presser feet to save time and simplify sewing.
Explore new possibilities for using four sewing machine presser feet. Nancy shows how to use the Open Toe Foot to appliqué and attach trim, the Fringe Foot to make trim and sew on buttons, the Multicord Foot to couch threads and gather, and the Edge Joining Foot to join trims and stitch in the ditch.

Prog. 2015: Fancy Footworks

Use specialty sewing machine presser feet to their fullest potential.
Nancy showcases four more sewing machine presser feet. She uses the Cording and Piping Foot to create and insert piping, the Edgestitching Foot to make pleats and diamond tucks, the Pintuck Foot to make traditional and corded pintucks, and the Overcast-Guide Foot to overcast and seam knits.

Achieve professional results with specialty sewing and quilting presser feet.
Use the Little Foot/Patchwork Foot for precise seaming and channel stitching, the Curve Master Foot to simplify joining curved quilting seams, and the Big Foot to do echo quilting and free motion quilting and stippling. Nancy also demonstrates making and attaching ruffles using the Ruffler Foot.

Prog. 2017: First Rate Sweatshirts

Transform an ordinary sweatshirt into a trendy garment with first rate style.
Mary Mulari is Nancy’s guest as they demonstrate ways to modify a sweatshirt to give it a new look. Add homespun chenille accents to a Bias-patch Cardigan, use precut chenille trim to finish edges of a Stitch & Wash Cardigan and vest, and add zippers, snap tape, and decorative trim to sweatshirts.

Prog. 2018: First Rate Sweatshirts

Simple creative accents give sweatshirts interest and pizzazz. Fabric fat quarters turn a sweatshirt into a trendy cardigan, fabric scraps add interest to an "Edgy Patchwork” sweatshirt, and buttons and decorative stitches convert a sweatshirt into an attractive tunic as Nancy and guest Mary Mulari present innovative ideas for giving sweatshirts style and vitality.

Prog. 2019: First Rate Sweatshirts

Simple changes personalize sweatshirts and make them anything but ordinary.
Sweatshirt aficionado Mary Mulari and Nancy Zieman add machine embroidered accents to closures on a Triple Loop Cardigan and embroidered appliqués to the fold of an Inside Out Blues sweatshirt. Wider notched ribbing and reverse appliqué trim a third shirt and double ribbing, a fourth.

Prog. 2020: Designer Techniques Using Your Sewing Machine

Think outside the box and use designer techniques to create spectacular pillows.
Author/designer Christopher Nejman combines elegant fabrics and dynamic embellishments to take color and texture to a new level in pillow-making. He and Nancy show how to punch and felt fabrics, as well as how to add interesting threads, crystals, jewels, decorative stitching, and fringe.

Prog. 2021: Class Act Sewing

Convert table linens into designer shirts.
Pattern designer/author Lorraine Torrence is Nancy’s guest, as they show how to use a readymade tablecloth as the “fabric” for making a shirt. As an option, they also explain how to use coordinating fabrics to simulate the look of a tablecloth in making a mitered corner pieced border shirt.

Prog. 2022: Class Act Sewing

Combine quilting and dressmaking to create personalized wearable art jackets and vests. Nancy and guest Lorraine Torrence demonstrate using a stitch and flip technique to create a jacket designed with pieced fabric trapezoids of varying colors and scale. They show how to easily match pockets to a patterned base fabric, then make a vest showcasing pieced triangles.

Prog. 2023: Class Act Sewing

Take something that looks challenging — curved seaming — and streamline the process. The jacket Nancy and guest Lorraine Torrence feature on this episode showcases curved seaming. It looks challenging, but Lorraine demonstrates a simple way to butt edges on a muslin foundation and cover them with bias tape. She and Nancy also illustrate a patchwork variation edged with ruffles.
