Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) and the Urban League of Greater Madison will host a film screening and discussion forum 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at the Catholic Multicultural Center, 1862 Beld St., Madison.

Following the screening of P.O.V. 'Farmingville,' forum participants will have the opportunity to talk back and share their thoughts in a videotaped letter that will be sent to the films producers. Community members of color are strongly encouraged to attend and share concerns on the topic. Bilingual interpreters will be available.

The film, a Special Jury Prize winning film at this year's Sundance Film Festival, focuses on the struggles of a shocked middle-class community as it deals with the attempted murder of two Mexican day laborers. It highlights the influx of illegal immigrants crossing the border from Mexico to do work the locals won't, the flourishing low-wage labor market that depends on them and the rising tensions within the resident Anglo population.

For further information, contact, E. Anne Wilder, WPT's community outreach manager, at 265-9092 or e-mail outreach@wpt.org

This event is in collaboration with P.O.V., the acclaimed independent, nonfiction film series on PBS.

Major funding for the Community Forums on Race and Diversity is provided in part by Alliant Energy, Dean Health System and St. Marys Hospital Medical Center. Additional funding is provided in part by the Madison Community Fund.
