Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) and the Elvehjem Museum of Art in Madison are offering two different and exciting architectural day tours in Chicago this summer to explore the work of trailblazing architect and Wisconsin native Frank Lloyd Wright.
On July 28, a daylong, docent-led bus tour explores two architectural wonders of Prairie Design -- the Charnley-Persky House and the Robie House, designed by Wright in 1891 and 1910 respectively.
This tour also provides the opportunity to view the Unbuilt Chicago architectural exhibition and the Seurat and the Making of the 'La Grande Jatte' art exhibition at The Art Institute of Chicago. The Grand Jatte is one of the most famous, visited and frequently reproduced paintings in the world.
On Aug. 12, a daylong, docent-guided bus tour explores Chicago's architecture and the visionary work of Wright.
Back by popular demand, this tour visits Oak Park, Ill., for an interior tour of Wright's home and studio, the architect's private residence from 1889 to 1909. Also included are a guided walking tour of additional Oak Park historic neighborhood homes and a river cruise in downtown Chicago.
The price for either day tour is $115 for members of WPT or the Elvehjem Museum of Art, and $130 for nonmembers. The registration deadline is June 28 for the July 28 tour, and July 9 for the Aug. 12 tour.
To register or for more information, call DeAnne Massey at (608) 262-5256 or e-mail her at massey@wpt.org
