Funk Receives WPT's 7th Man Award for Hockey

Sophomore forward John Funk has been voted the winner of Wisconsin Public Television's Jim Santulli 7th Man Award for hockey.

Funk received the honor, bestowed by Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) viewers, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison men's hockey banquet on Saturday, May 1.

Funk, who is from Mendota Heights, Minn., played the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons with the United States Hockey League's (USHL) Sioux Falls Stampede before joining the Badgers for the 2002-2003 season.

As part of its role broadcasting and supporting Badger men's hockey, WPT annually presents the Jim Santulli 7th Man Award.

Named for the man who helped put Badger hockey on the air on WPT, the Jim Santulli 7th Man Award is presented to the player who fans think gives his all on the ice and best represents the trademarks of team spirit and good sportsmanship.

In 2004, WPT celebrates 50 years of service to Wisconsin individuals and families. WHA-TV, Madison, signed on the air on May 3, 1954.

WPT is a service of the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board and UW-Extension.
