Last year the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that one in four teenage girls had contracted a sexually transmitted disease. The alarming trend of sexually transmitted diseases among teens is explored on the next television broadcast of Teen Connection.

“Teens and Sexually Transmitted Diseases” airs on public television stations statewide at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) and on WMVS-TV in Milwaukee.

Dr. Jane Witman from Aurora Bay Care in Green Bay and Bilingual Case Manager F. M. "Mike" Fitzgerald of the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin in Green Bay will join a panel of teens to talk about the rise in youth transmission of HIV and how young peoples' perspectives often differ from that of the "older generation" in regard to HIV/AIDS.

They also will discuss the realities of possible transmission of multiple sexually transmitted infections from a single intimate experience - several infectious agents including HIV simultaneously transmitted in fluids from herpes simplex viral lesions or human papillomavirus outbreaks.

Teen Connection is co-produced by NEWIST/CESA 7, Educational TV Productions of Northeast Wisconsin (ETP-NEW) and WPT. Host Kathryn Bracho appears courtesy of WBAY-Channel 2 in Green Bay.

The live program features a call-in option at 877-988-2888. It is a toll-free call.

The service will be provided courtesy of Nsight Long Distance. For more resources, check wpt.org/teenconnection.
