The gavel came down on the 29th annual WHA-TV Auction Showcase earlier this week on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) and organizers report a highly successful event.

'We are grateful to so many people who help make the Auction Showcase possible,' said Kelly Joerres, Auction manager. 'The event would never come off without the invaluable volunteers, artists, business donors and business underwriters who support public broadcasting.'

The WHA-TV Auction Showcase generated $130,000 for educational and entertaining programming, and engaging community activities throughout the state. The event is sponsored by Friends of WHA-TV, the non-profit fund-raising arm for WPT.

The Auction Showcase aired live, televised bidding on the evening of June 6 and offered dozens of items designed to pamper and please. Plus, the proceeds support peerless PBS programming, outstanding local productions and community events such as literacy building and public forums on contemporary issues.

In 2004, WPT celebrates 50 years of service to Wisconsin individuals and families. WHA-TV, Madison, signed on the air on May 3, 1954.

WPT is a service of the Educational Communications Board and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
