Wet from the Sea
by Lydia , grade 5

When I see a piece of driftwood
Wet from the sea
I think of where it might have been
And where it's going to be.

It could have gone to Australia
And raced the kangaroos,
Played tag with the koalas
Then took a little snooze.

It could have gone to Pakistan
And met the only man
Who colored all his world
A sandy shade of tan.

It could have gone to Norway
Skied down a slippery slope,
Slipping, sliding, falling down,
Wishing for a rope!
It could have been around the world,
It may have been anywhere,
But I'll never know it's past.
I shouldn't really care.

This one piece of driftwood
Lying on the beach.
