Untitled (1:24)
by Michelle

As I walk into the basement I notice a little girl
In a black leotard practicing a tap routine.
After ten minutes of hard work
She is surrounded by kittens.
She starts to play with them rolling around getting dirty.
She doesn't seem to mind.
Then she starts to sing to herself.
Her ears open when she hears voices.
"What, Mom?" she asks.
"Time for dinner," her mom responds.
As she runs up the stairs she turns around and whispers
"Come on." She is talking to me.
We reach the next floor together.
I turn to look at the little girl and scream.
She looks just like me.

Her smile is radiant and her hopes are high.
So many dreams she has.
She loves basketball and wants to become a lawyer.
Pictures and books surround her as she takes a seat in her lime green chair.
She seems so happy and appears to be content with life.
Before I can comprehend the situation she is pulling me up another flight of stairs.

When we reach the top I notice I am in a courtroom.
The girl that once whispered for me to follow is now a respected judge.
Sitting in the crowd to support her is her NBA husband.
They are going to play a pick up game after the court case ends.
Her dreams are now a reality.
Then I think to myself, this is me.
