Selfish (0:55)
by Roxanne

One by one the deep red
Rose petals floated along
To the ground like clouds
In the gentle blue sky.

Love had once lingered
Longingly in each petal;
But now, love has
Gone to be in a better place.

Once filled with life
The rose had bloomed,
Now it has withered away,
Like the love we shared.

I knew I should have
gone with her last night,
But I was selfish and
Told you "NO!"

I can just picture the
Sense, the screech of
The tires and the squeaking
Brakes, as you turned the wheel.

I got the call at 9:15;
I watching a movie,
Eating popcorn, and
Painting my toenails.

"There has been an
Accident," stated the voice,
"Why mom, why?" I
Screamed in terror.

Now she's gone,
On to a far off place;
Like the dying rose
She gave me.

A week earlier
She was here
And gave me a
Rose just because.

She loved me
So much, now the
Rose is a sweet 'n sour
Reminder of her love.
