Read, watch, listen. >>
The youth poetry and spoken word movement is exploding all over
the country. Crossing gender, ethnic, and geographic lines, teenagers
are discovering poetry and the spoken word. As these new poets
take to the stage, audiences are mesmerized by the passion and
talent they witness.
The "poetry slam" movement has been captured in the documentary
film Poetic
License, in which young writers are seen performing and discussing
their poetic influences and inspirations. UWEX embraced this movement
in a combination of broadcast, print, performance, Web and training
workshops.
Poetic License in Wisconsin was funded by the University of Wisconsin-Chancellor's
office and was a collaboration between Public
Television (WPT) and UW-Extension
4-H Youth Development to increase youth participation and
interest in poetic self-expression around the state.
