Wisconsin PBS Kids Open House

More than 1,000 youngsters and their caregivers attended the 11th-annual Wisconsin PBS Kids Open House on Aug. 1, 2008. The event, sponsored by Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) and the Educational Communications Board, took place at WPT headquarters in Vilas Hall on the UW-Madison campus.

This year's event theme was SUPER YOU! and featured appearances by walk-around characters from the popular PBS children's programs "WordGirl" and "Super Why." Children participated in games and activities based on PBS children’s programs.

Community organizations also were present with activities, demonstrations and handout materials. Attendees were encouraged to bring a gently used children’s book for the "Be a Hero; Donate a Book" drive. More than 100 books were collected and donated to the Family Reading Area of the YMCA.
