"On the Mat"

Written and Illustrated by Jeromy K.
First Grade

I have a lot of energy!

Wrestling is a good way to get rid of it. I joined the team.

Practice is fun! I play games and learn about wrestling.

Coach Brad is AWESOME! He gets mad when we fool around. I try to be good.

I have also made new friends named Nick and Dylan. They are brothers. Nick helps us learn our positions.

My first tournament was EXCITING! I pinned my first guy. The rest is history.

I hope to wrestle forever!

My energy finally has a place to go — out on the mat!

The end — See you on the mat!

"The Snowflake Adventure"
Written and Illustrated by Trenton S.
Second Grade

One Sunday morning my friend, Hunter and I woke up and we were really cold. We were more than cold. Suddenly we realized we had turned into snowflakes during the night. We were very tiny.

Then I realized we weren't in my bedroom anymore. We were outside falling from the air right towards the big, black street! Then there was a loud noise and we almost crashed into a car.

Luckily the wind blew us to the other side of the street. We landed gently on some new snow which was right next to some children who were building a snowman. The next thing I knew I was being rolled into a ball. Hunter and I are now part of the snowman. I am the bottom and Hunter is the top of the snowman.

Finally I felt something warm. I looked up and I saw the sun. I could feel myself starting to melt. After a few days out in the sun we slowly turned from snow to water and then I became lighter and lighter.

I could feel myself running across the earth. Then I felt really wet. I realized I had drained into a stream. Now I am living with the fish in a lake. I will live here until the sun warms me up and I start this whole process over again.

"Fuzz and His Orange
"

Written and Illustrated by Nathanael H.
Third Grade

"I'm hungry!" said Fuzz, the wooly bear.

"Then you must need some breakfast!" said his mother.

"After breakfast, he noticed that his older brother and sister had beautiful orange fur. He looked at himself and saw that he didn't have much orange fur. In fact he had mostly black fur. He wondered why he didn't have very much orange fur, so he went out to look for it.

Fuzz went out of his house and into the backyard. He saw a lily and looked under it. He didn't find his orange fur there, so he decided to look farther.

Fuzz thought he might find it across the street. When he was about half way across, a car came speeding up. Fuzz ran as fast as his little legs could carry him and...

Whew! He got out of the way just in time.

Next, Fuzz saw some trash cans. One of the lids was not shut all the way. "Maybe my orange fur is in there somewhere," he thought.

But the fur was nowhere in sight.

Just then, Fuzz saw a big yellow machine. People were going into it. "Maybe that's where my orange fur is," Fuzz thought. He clung to someone's shoe and entered the bus. He searched and searched — but no sign of his orange fur.

After the ride, clinging to the shoe again, Fuzz entered a school. He looked in the school. Then Fuzz found a backpack. "I'm sure my fur is in there!" Fuzz thought, and climbed into it and searched for a half an hour.

Still no fur! When he finally came out, he was in the neighbors' yard! He looked at himself and there was his fur!

"I'm glad I found my orange fur!" Fuzz announced.

Then he made a cocoon around himself for a nap. When he awoke, he was a graceful moth!
