“Fish Wars” Shoot
It’s not often that the camera crew says, “Thanks for making me put on hip waders and climb down a ladder into a tank of 40-degree water.” But that’s what happened. The goal was videotaping adult lake trout at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Iron River Fish Hatchery in northern Wisconsin.

Producer Liz Koerner
The staff at the hatchery was wonderfully accommodating. They even lowered the water level to make it easier to work in the fish run.
“Milwaukee River Cleanup” Shoot
The highlight of this day of videotaping near downtown Milwaukee was an opportunity to shoot from the roof top of a tall apartment complex. From these lofty heights we could clearly see the value of preserving the Milwaukee River corridor. The tree-lined path carved by the river was an oasis of green in the concrete and pavement of this urban environment.
“Quagga Mussels” Shoot
The summer of 2006 marked the second summer the television crew and I set sail aboard The Great Lakes WATER Institute's primary research vessel is the NEESKAY, under the steady hand of Capt. Greg Stamatelakys.
According to the Web site of the Great Lakes Association of Science Ships, “Great Lakes science vessels are an important part of U.S. and Canadian research and monitoring efforts designed to protect the quality of the Great Lakes ecosystem.”
I can readily attest to the value of this work having seen how much data scientists collect on each trip. And, if the seas are calm, the captain serves biscuits-- still warm from the on-board oven.
