It s all part of the garden party Garden Expo happening Feb. 10 12 at the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. Take the opportunity to talk with Shelley Ryan, proudcer/host of The Wisconsin Gardener, at the WPT booth. Tickets for Garden Expo are $6 in advance and $7 at the door; for $10, expo-goers may purchase a two-day pass. Children 12 years and under are admitted for free. Parking is an additional fee and not under the control of Garden Expo sponsors. The event will run from 4 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. Garden Expo is supported by the Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association and hosted by WPT, Friends of WHA-TV and the UW-Extension-Cooperative Extension Horticulture Team. GARDEN EXPO SEMINARS
More than 85 educational seminars make Garden Expo a can't-miss event for those thirsting for knowledge on gardens, lawns and landscapes. Many popular seminars are offered more than once during the three-day event. All are taught by experts who are very willing to field questions and swap stories. A sampling of topics this year includes rain gardens, ornamental grasses and tree pruning. A full list is available at www.wpt.org/gardenexpo. GARDEN EXPO HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS
Why not try a hands-on workshop at this year s Garden Expo? It's a great experience to share with a child or just treat yourself. You walk away with a new item, like a lawn ornament or a mosaic pot, and a real sense of accomplishment. All workshops are priced separately from regular Garden Expo admission and details can be found at www.wpt.org/gardenexpo. BERRIES TO SPICE UP THE WINTER GARDEN Plan now for adding berry plants so next year's winter garden has some spice to it. Consider: an American cranberry bush with red berries, which can reach a height of 12 feet and needs partial to full sun; black chokecherry with dark-purple berries and grows to 4 6 feet, needing partial to full sunlight; common snowberry with white berries, will be 3-5 feet and does well in sun and shade; or northern bayberry with pale blue-grey berries that is hardy and will be 4 10 feet.
