Volunteer at Quilt Expo
Quilt Expo would not be possible without the help of hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers! If you would like to help us make the show a success, please join us for a shift or two as a volunteer. Each shift lasts three to four hours, and you can select a time that works around lectures, presentations, and workshops you'd like to attend. As thanks for your help, we'll provide you with free admission and parking.
Sign Up Online or call 608-265-4436.
Positions available during the show:
- Greeters and Handstampers*: Direct attendees to entry gates, ticket booths, the quilt exhibit, etc, and answer basic questions about the show. Offer to stamp hands at exits for attendees who wish to return.
- Quilt Exhibit Docents: Ensure quilt safety and answer questions in the quilt exhibit. Great job for anyone who loves talking quilts! We'll provide information sheets and white gloves to use in handling quilts.
- Lecture, Workshop, and Presentation Stage Assistants: Collect tickets and assist presenters with distributing hand-outs, lowering/raising lights, or other tasks as needed.
- Package Checkers: Check and retrieve attendee packages.
- Information Booth*: Give directions and answer other questions about Quilt Expo using information sheets we provide.
- Ticket Sellers*: Sell tickets in the front or back lobby of the Exhibition Hall of the Alliant Energy Center. You must be able to accurately add and quickly make change.
- Volunteer Check-In*: Greet volunteers and direct them to training areas in our volunteer lounge on the second floor of the Exhibition Hall.
- Special Event Hosts: Greet visitors, collect tickets, and serve as an usher at one or both of our special evening events. Special events will take place at 5:15 - 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14. (These positions will go quickly, so sign up soon!)
- Floaters: Fill in where needed in the event that another volunteer needs to cancel. Lots of fun if you enjoy versatility!
Positions available before and after the show:
- Vendor Check-In*: Help greet and check in vendors during set-up on Wednesday, September 12. Set-up volunteers will receive admission passes to use on the day of their choosing while Quilt Expo is in progress.
- Quilt Exhibit Installation/Take-Down: Assist in hanging or taking down quilts with care before and/or after the show. This is a very physical job, as we'll be handling over 300 quilts! Set-up will take place on Wednesday, September 12 and take-down will take place after the show on Saturday, September 15. We especially appreciate volunteers who have quilt handling experience, but we'll train inexperienced volunteers who can handle the physical demands of the job. Set-up and take-down volunteers will receive admission passes to use on the day of their choosing while Quilt Expo is in progress.
- Quilt Exhibit Installation/Take-Down Security: Help us keep an eye on quilts while exhibit set-up and take-down are in progress.
* Seated job. All other jobs involve standing/walking.
