The battle to restore a proper relationship between man and his environment, between humans and other living creatures, will require a long sustained, political, moral, ethical and financial commitment far beyond any commitment ever made by any society in history. Are we able? Yes. Are we willing? That's the unanswered question. Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day, 1970.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet

International figure and religious leader His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, addressed an audience on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus on Friday, May 4.

WPT aired the Dalai Lama's speech, “Compassion: The Source of Happiness,” in its entirety at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8. The Web-based stream is archived and available for streaming at any time.

“For this address, more than 12,000 tickets were made available. They went quickly. That’s an indication of the high interest for this Wisconsin appearance,” said John Steele with WPT. “We are pleased that for those who don’t have a ticket, but want to hear the message, it’s a mouse click away or accessible through a television broadcast.”

This was the Dalai Lama’s fifth visit to Madison. During his most recent stop, in 2001, he met with researchers looking into the link between meditation, and physical and mental health.
