Summer 2011
Wisconsin Public Television brings back Concerts on the Square®, featuring the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra in performance on the State Capitol grounds in Madison.
The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra's Concerts on the Square® is celebrating its 28th year in 2011. Led by Maestro Andrew Sewell, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra will perform six concerts from June 29 through Aug. 3.
This year, WPT is pleased to offer a broadcast of highlights from "A Down Home Fourth of July." The concert will showcase the lively melodies of bluegrass music with Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra violinist Jerry Loughney and his band, “Above the Town,” as well as traditional favorites from such classic American composers as Aaron Copland and John Philip Sousa.
WPT's coverage of "A Down Home Fourth of July" will be broadcast twice at 6 p.m. both Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10.

Each year, concertgoers arrive early to claim prime space on the Capitol lawn, turning the grounds into a sea of blankets. Balloons and picnic baskets decorate the Square. And then the music begins. |
Broadcasts of Concerts on the Square® on Wisconsin Public Television are made possible by the John and Carolyn Peterson Charitable Foundation. |
