a sourcebook of youth-driven ideas and activities
on race and diversity
Coming Together: Race in Wisconsin uses WPT broadcasts to engage Wisconsin youth, ages 12-18, on the subjects of race and diversity.
WPT and UW-Extension Wisconsin 4-H Youth Development partnered to create Coming Together: Race in Wisconsin with additional guidance from Wisconsin Educational Communications Board and the Urban League of Greater Madison.
Together, they invited teens from around the state to brainstorming sessions from which discussion questions and activities were drawn. The result of the sessions is a fun and valuable curriculum that can be used in a variety of informal settings, including 4-H clubs, neighborhood centers and faith-based groups.
Coming Together: Race in Wisconsin gives youth the tools to identify community-held prejudices and to encourage positive interaction with people they see as different from themselves. It includes the following components:
A sourcebook of ideas and activities, including three experiential learning modules on the topics of personal culture, immigration and stereotypes. It also contains facilitation how-to’s, a listing of resource Web sites, a comprehensive glossary and more. Download the sourcebook as a PDF.
A 60-minute VHS tape that accompanies the sourcebook. The tape features short clips from a variety of programs that aired on WPT, which will spark discussion and interaction on the topics. To receive a free copy of the VHS tape, e-mail outreach@wpt.org or call 608/265-5035.
Watch sample clips from the VHS tape and visit the Web sites to learn more about each program.
