S-8115 - Featured Artist Quilt - "Fence Post"

Featured artist Nancy Zieman`s attention to detail and mastery of quilting is evident in this quilt titled "Fence Post". Using a raw-edge appliqué technique, Nancy has created a pictorial of a fence post and rail, amid a landscape of leaf and flower ground cover, with hanging branches of tree leaves and floral vines draping over the fence rail. Fabrics of cotton, hand-dyed cotton, and cotton batiks in shades of browns, blacks, whites, greens and yellows were used throughout the piece. The outline and variety of lines that create texture to various elements, along with the continuous leaf design on outer border show an excellent control of free motion machine quilting. The quilt measures 41-and-a-half inches by 34-inches, and has Nancy`s initials in the lower right front corner. The quilt, completed in November 2005, is valued at twenty-two hundred dollars. Presenter of "Sewing with Nancy" since 1982 and owner of Nancy`s Notions, Nancy Zieman is internationally known for catering to the needs of the home sewer. Description: Pictorial of fence post, offset to the right and fence rail amid a landscape of leaf and flower ground cover, hanging branches of tree leaves and floral vines draping over fence rail. 2 borders, ½” dark green, 2 ½” shaded lighter greens.

Quilting pattern/Amt.: Heavy amount. Outline and variety of lines to create texture to various elements meander (close) to background. Continuous leaf design in outer border.

Edge finish: 3/8” green applied binding.

Construction: Excellent in all aspects.

Quilting: Excellent control of free motion machine quilting.

Condition: Excellent.

Provenance: Nancy is internationally known for development of her business “Nancy’s Notions”. See attached for details. Her work as an artist of Landscape quilts is also well known and featured in books of which she is the author along with Natalie Sewell.

Notations: Initials “NZ” lower right front. Great attention to detail, shadowing and highlighting of landscape elements.
