Kathy Armstrong
Kathy Armstrong's love of art began in childhood. "My mother painted
and I developed an appreciation of art through her," she says.
Armstrong, a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, has a strong background
in graphic design. It wasn't until the early 1990s that she discovered her
preferred medium — transparent watercolor.
Armstrong's vibrant paintings begin with something that draws her attention. "I
spend time observing and photographing various things that interest me for
possible paintings," she says. The photos serve as reference for a process
that begins with sketching and re-working a composition before transferring
it to watercolor paper. Each painting requires numerous glazes of transparent
color that develop the composition and lend interest to her subjects. She feels
light is the main ingredient to making a painting sing.
Her work has received numerous awards has been chosen to grace the Wisconsin
Chamber Orchestra's 2008 Concerts on the Square® poster.
Armstrong belongs to the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Wisconsin
Watercolor Society, and Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors. A Madison resident,
her paintings may be viewed at Grace Chosy Gallery and at kathyarmstrongfineart.com
on the Web.
"The auction is an opportunity for me to support a valuable and deserving
organization," says Armstrong. |
